Bennetts British Superbike – championship win for PBM and BeerMonster Ducati

The UK’s British Superbike (BSB) Championship once again shored up its legendary status of being the most exciting home-championship racing series ever. Fact.

The outcome of a hard-fought, 11-round championship went not down to the wire, but the very live current that crackled with the sheer intensity of two team-mates vying to the last lap of the last championship race of 2023. The end result was Tommy Bridewell of BeerMonster Ducati clinched his maiden BSB championship title by just half a point over team-mate Glen Irwin.

It wasn’t any kind of luck that saw Tommy Bridewell and Glen Irwin of team BeerMonster Ducati having to duel it out for the championship win. It was simply down to race team tactics and support, bike preparation and, of course, the sheer riding talent of two men at the pinnacle of their racing careers.

With Sunday’s Race 2 confirmed as a win for Irwin and second place for Bridewell, the packed Brands Hatch circuit was alive with anticipation of a battle royale in Race 3. Irwin had to win and Bridewell had to finish lower than second place for Irwin to overcome Bridewell’s 5.5-point advantage and secure the championship.

Race 3 proved to be nothing short of spellbinding. Only the attentions of Kyle Ryde and Ryan Vickers (LAMI OMG Racing Yamaha) prevented the BeerMonster Ducati riders from romping ahead. Slowly but surely and after some brave defensive and passing moves from all four riders, Irwin and Bridewell eventually got ahead to have their own battle. Despite Irwin clinching the race, Bridewell took the championship win by placing second. With the closest run BSB finale – a mere half-point separated the BeerMonster Ducati duo – in its history, the result further underlines the fact Paul Bird Motorsport (PBM), the squad behind BeerMonster Ducati, is still the most successful BSB team.
