After two years of frustrating cancellations, lap record holder Peter Hickman came back in style at this year’s Isle of Man TT, winning a stunning four races and claiming two further podiums in a dominant week.
Hickman, 35, moved on to nine career TT wins in total with his superb rides on the Gas Monkey BMW by FHO Racing M1000RR and PHR Performance Paton S1-R, while piloting the K2 Trooper Beer by PHR Performance Triumph Daytona 765 to a second and third-placed finish.
Hickman has been a long-term Evotech Performance-supported rider and this year was no different, with both his BMW and Triumph fitted out with a multitude of products such as radiator guards, lever protectors and exhaust hangers.
“Overall, the TT was epic and we had a mega time,” Hickman said. “To win all three big bike races and get on the podium with the Triumph was just amazing, especially after two years with no racing. Six laps at these speeds is a real test for the bikes and thankfully I had no major mechanical issues at all.”
Hickman was served by 10-12 technicians on the island across his three different bikes and is in no doubt that the quality and precision of his Evotech Performance parts contributed to the champagne on the podium.
Road racing is a brutal test of rider and machine, with bikes hitting over 200mph on public roads littered with grit, stone chips and foliage on a road circuit which can be pulled into the bike. Hickman and his BMW team’s busy year continued with a last-minute wildcard ride at the World Superbike round at Donington Park, and he could yet end the year with a trip to the iconic Macau Grand Prix. “Donington was the first world championship race for the whole team so it was a good weekend,” he said.
“All the WSB guys are so fast, it was great to be on the same circuit as those boys and seeing what they do. Looking at the sector times we could see where we were fast, we weren’t too bad at all. Whether it’s Macau, the Isle of Man, World Superbike or British Superbike I don’t care – I just like riding bikes.”
