Brands Hatch, BSB Round 2 – EP on track for success

The first round of the 2018 Bennetts British Superbike Championship may well have got off to ‘shaky’ start because of rain and the cold temperatures, and in a way, the second round at Brands Hatch did too! Saying that, the Be Wiser Ducati team celebrated its first win of the season with Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne winning the opening BSB race at the Kent circuit. This paved the way for what turned out to be a successful second round for the Evotech Performance-supported race teams.

While Shakey took the top spot in race one, Christian Iddon (Tyco BMW), Glenn Irwin (Be Wiser Ducati), Michael Laverty (Tyco BMW) and Peter Hickman (Smiths Racing BMW), all managed to claim top ten results. Just outside the top ten, Tarran Mackenzie and Josh Brookes of McAMS Yamaha scored 11th and 13th respectively. Hickman’s Smiths Racing BMW team-mate Sylvain Barrier just made the top 20.

In race two, it was Leon Haslam (JG Speedfit Kawasaki) who clinched the top spot, but EP-supported Irwin and Laverty dominated the remaining places on the podium as well as fourth (Shakey), fifth (Brookes) and sixth (Iddon) positions. This time out, Mackenzie just managed to edge inside the top ten, while Hickman finished 14th and Barrier 19th.

We’ve been supporting race teams since the 1990s – some of us at Evotech Performance have even had a go at racing over the years – so we have a pretty good idea of what’s needed to produce a machine that’s capable of winning races. Supporting professional race teams and riders not only helps us to develop exquisite, perfect components for track use, it also helps us design and fabricate our road bike accessories too.

Good luck to all the race teams at Round 3 of the Championship at Oulton Park in May. Fingers crossed for decent weather.
