Love the angle from down by the front fender! The mount needs to be made out of metal and not plastic. That is my only gripe.
The number of ways of mounting an action camera on a KTM 1290 Super Duke R are few. The cockpit of the R offers no mounting points, unlike the GT versions. The tapered bars offer little space for a clamp. The mirror threads are a possibility but require a custom bracket to mount RAM ball and an extension arm.
An alternative is to use the EP mounting bracket that is available for several brands and models of motorcycles. This mounts the action camera on the front suspension leg, left or right, using the existing mudguard fixing threads with longer machine screws provided in the kit. I attached the bracket to the bike in less than five-minutes to provide a secure mounting for my GoPro. The set up is straightforward, especially with an iPhone using the GoPro app to view the image. The tilt angle of the camera is set to give the best forward view – I used the Allen cap **** provided in the kit to secure the camera to the mounting bracket.
My first concern was that the point of view (POV) of the camera would be too low. However, in use the camera’s wide-angle lens gives a satisfying view of the road ahead. It also captures a part of the front wheel, which adds interest. It is possible to mount the camera to face rearwards and capture the riders foot movement during corning and changing gear.
The camera mounts on the moving part of the front suspension, so I had expected this to affect the quality of the video capture when riding over poor road surfaces. The camera’s built-in stabilization does a decent job in smoothing out these suspension movements.
I like the unintrusive aesthetics of the bracket when mounted on the bike. The camera controls are easy to access, although not when on the bike unless you chose to use the GoPro app on a Smartphone. It is possible to connect the camera to the KTM’s USB port, which is on the left side of the headstock. To do so requires taping the USB cable down the front suspension leg with sufficient slack to allow for movement. So far, a fully charged battery provides me with enough run time.
The price of the EP bracket is reasonable compare with other mounting options on the market and does not require added RAM mountings. Fitting is quick and easy. The design and finish of the bracket is good, as are the high-quality spacers and fixings supplied as part of the kit. The delivery was next working day. A five-star product and supplier.
