Is an EP Oil Cooler Guard necessary?

100% yes. An EP Oil Cooler Guard protects the Speed Triple RS oil cooler from damage caused by road debris, while allowing the required cooling air to pass through. The Triumph oil cooler consists of thin cooling fins and an internal core - the fins can easily bend and block the passage of air, which will lead to overheating and early degradation of the oil. The internal core could also be holed by debris, such as a stone being picked up by the bike's front tyre or other traffic and flung directly at the cooler. The result then would be rapid engine overheating and loss of oil pressure, which will cause engine damage. Let's not forget that oil leaking onto tyres can cause sudden loss of grip.

Oil cooler cover in black.

I would normally buy a stainless steel oil cooler cover as they last forever, this time I bought one in black. It looks better on the bike and I just hope it retains it's finish over time.

I have the Triumph radiator cooler fitted but they don’t do an oil cooler cover, so I wanted a go...

I have the Triumph radiator cooler fitted but they don’t do an oil cooler cover, so I wanted a good quality one which looked similar to the Triumph accessory. The Evotech oil cooler guard is a really well made item, it was easy to fit with no bending tabs to fit the bike, and there were no clearance issues with the radiator guard. The only minor niggle was that I had to root about for a slightly longer bolt as the originals wouldn’t quite bite due to the additional thickness of the guard, but fortunately I had a bag of spare stainless steel allen head bolts to hand, so I could finish the install.
