The UK & Ireland short circuit and roads racing season has reached midway point and is now going fast towards the 2019 finish line. The same can be said for MotoGP, which has delivered some close end of race finishes so far in 2019 and worthy of the Pay-to-View subscription charge... One such race was the GoPro British Grand Prix held at Silverstone Circuit (25th Aug). We have to mention this race because we went to spectate and drool over the bikes - specifically the technical aspect of these Tier 1 racing machines. It was good day made better with some very untraditional English weather – it was hot and dry!
Evotech Performance is not only a leading manufacturer of road-going motorcycle accessories, but also a key player within the British Superbike Championship (BSB) – a motorcycle race championship that attracts riders from overseas because of the world-class racing it produces.
We currently support several leading teams within this famous race series. This support at most takes the form of development and supply of race specification components. These products can range from our famous EP Radiator and Oil Cooler Guards to EP Brake Lever Protectors and more. As said, these EP parts are race specification meaning, for example, they are designed to suit high performance race machines, which run consistently at high rpm, far more than any road-going motorcycle, meaning they run hotter, too. This includes Superstock machines, which use standard engines.
The Evotech Performance supported teams have been in the thick of British Superbike action all season. Success and frustration has been experienced by all the main protagonists as they endeavour to reach the highest podium position. Tyco BMW Motorrad had a less than ideal start to the BSB season.
The first part of the season saw Tyco running with virtually standard engines and radiators due to late supply of the BMW S 1000 RR. The knock on effect was that race specific radiators were also in short supply and all teams running with MY19 S 1000 RR were playing catch up including Smiths Racing BMW. The moment race specification parts became available, Evotech Performance suddenly got very busy manufacturing race specification cooler guards and putting finishing touches to the latest EP racing front brake protectors.
McAMS Yamaha has also been touched this season by the highs and lows of top flight racing. One of our longest supported teams, its R1 machines could be considered rolling showcases for the type of fabrication work we provide race teams. Currently the McAMS Yamaha R1 bikes are equipped with EP guards for the race-spec water and oil coolers, exhaust hanger, battery and ECU mounting boxes, front brake guard and throttle cable sliders for the quick detach cables. There are other unique EP fabricated components on the R1s but the talking point at the moment is aimed at the EP front brake lever protectors.
Initially designed for rider safety, the lever protectors have evolved into formidable crash damage protectors. With eight of the 12 scheduled rounds done and dusted, McAMS have not had a front brake lever snap-off or wrecked a master cylinder during racing incidents, which at £2,500 per master cylinder has meant great financial saving for the team. The feedback on such components produced for racing obviously plays a part on various EP products produced for road bikes.
Going into the last four rounds of BSB, Ducati mounted riders presently fill the first three leading positions, but with BMW and Yamaha (new engine and electronics) teams development now on track, BSB’s season end will undoubtedly deliver incredibly exciting racing – with Evotech Performance supported teams looking for victory.
