What's new for June?
BMW S 1000 RR ten years young
Just as the riding season gets underway, the 2019 (MY19) motorcycles showcased by the manufacturers at the end of 2018 are now stock items at their respective dealerships. However, it’s not all good news for BMW Motorrad fans. It is reported showroom stock of the all-new S 1000 RR – the first radical redesign since its launch ten years ago – is limited and deliveries of the top of the range S 1000 RR with M Package has been delayed. BMW’s claims of more power and stronger mid-range performance for the S 1000 RR have proven to be true thanks to first full reviews – including road, track and dynamometer tests – by specialist media on their home soil.
Evotech Performance was fortunate to have had access to one of the very first MY19 S 1000 RR in the UK and quickly set about designing and producing prototype accessories for evaluation. With testing and final finishing touches completed, an EP accessory line for the S 1000 RR is now available here.
Perfecting quality
Evotech Performance strives to produce motorcycle accessories that lack nothing in the quality department. When an EP accessory line becomes available, we rarely (if ever) leave it at that; because we are engineers and motorcyclists, constant reviews of our products are undertaken to see if they can be improved in terms of production methods, ease of fit, finish and style and many other areas.
One such example is the latest EP Crash Protection for the KTM 1290 Super Duke R. Although the fitment method of these popular protectors hasn’t changed so far during the course of this model’s life, the overall styling of the 1290 Duke has. To ensure our crash protection retains a factory-finish look, they have been cosmetically enhanced to reflect a modern styling. Key edges have been altered to give a more modern overall shape and remain in tune with the Duke’s styling lines. Second phase of the latest revision is to include Evotech Performance stainless steel EP replacement engine mount bolts complete with rolled threads and EP logo. It’s all in the detail…
Problem rectified
On the subject of KTM 1290 Super Duke, we were recently alerted to a problem highlighted by a growing amount of “Duke” owners’. The position of the motorcycle’s rectifier assembly leaves it wide open to attack from stone chippings and other harmful road debris flung. The end result over time is the wiring gets chewed with possible failure. To aid prevention, Evotech has produced an EP Rectifier Protection Guard utilising the same unique hexagonal matrix hole pattern from our globally commended EP Radiator and EP Oil Cooler Guards. Available now as a standalone item with the standard pillion footpegs, or as a kit to enable pillion peg removal, plus as part of the EP Replacement Exhaust Hangers for the standard exhaust muffler or Akrapovič replacement.
Honda middleweight masters
Honda looks to have struck gold in the middleweight motorcycle class with the sports positioned CBR650R and its non-faired relation CB650R Neo Sports Café. The CBR650R hasn’t the outright Supersport performance of the now defunct CBR600RR, but the easier to use 70kW performance in a sharply-styled chassis is attracting many new motorcycle licence holders. Another reason is that Honda supply A2 licence power restrictor kits for the CBR650R effectively giving two bikes (pre-test and after test) for one affordable price.
The Neo Sports Café is another European motorcyclist-friendly machine that can give similar levels of riding fun for riders who prefer “naked” motorcycles – a growing trend amongst younger riders. It’s a classy-looking motorcycle for the price and is suitable for all riding needs (commute, fun, circuit thrills etc). Evotech Performance now has available a range of quality EP protection and styling accessories for both Honda machines, including tail tidies through to crash protection. These EP accessories underline the expression "the best just got better".
A change for the best
New or revised motorcycle ranges are not always about engine and chassis performance or changes to colour schemes. Sometimes small, subtle changes occur that even dealerships do not know about until the motorcycle in question is in the workshop and on a bench. Occasionally, even Evotech Performance has to make small, almost imperceptible changes to its products. One such case involves the MY19 Ducati 803 Scrambler range, where a minor revision by Evotech Performance was required to its existing Scrambler EP Handguard Protector kit. This has led to a new product with unique product code specifically for 2019 models only.
Looking at the way forward
Presently going through testing stage at the moment is an EP product that will take us on a new direction. As motorcyclists, we know exactly what products are required to make bike ownership even better. One of our team recently purchased a MY19 Ducati Multistrada 1260 Pikes Peak for everyday riding and touring. Having discussed, searched and even tried several available systems to mount a Sat Nav unit, the end results led us to design and produce a prototype mounting system for the most common Sat Nav units (Garmin, TomTom etc) and mobile phone. If all goes to plan, EP Sat Nav Mounts for a range of bikes will be available within a few months’ time. More info soon.
Under discussion
On the Evotech Performance planning board are designs for an EP Tail Tidy for the Ducati 1260 Multistrada range. This tail tidy requires the need for exacting vacuum-forming or injection moulded plastic components and detailed fabrication work to maintain our renowned mark of quality and factory finish, but it will be worth it especially if you’re a Multistrada owner who wants only the best.
Another Ducati and another EP Tail Tidy. This time for the MY19 Ducati Diavel. The tail tidy will also be accompanied with an EP Oil Cooler Guard and air intake guard. Watch this space...
