Trophies, Trophies and even more Trophies…
It’s certainly looking like a brilliant season for the Evotech Performance-supported teams and riders in the Bennetts British Superbike Championship – and we couldn’t be more thrilled!
Regular readers of our blogs will know how much we love watching our supported stars win – and we’ve seen plenty of that recently.
Last month, OMG GRILLA Yamaha’s Ryan Vickers was celebrating after picking up the fancy King of Brands trophy after three wins at Brands Hatch. And, it seems the OMG GRILLA Yamaha boys can’t help themselves when it comes to picking up these huge trophies.
As the BSB class of 2024 headed to our local circuit, Cadwell Park, for the annual Bank Holiday Party in the Park, Vickers’ team-mate Kyle Ryde apparently decided that anything Ryan could do, he could do better.
The Cadwell Park round marked not just the last holiday weekend of the summer, it also marked the end of the Main Season as the riders now head into The Showdown, where points are doubled as the racers battle for championship honours.
But that’s not all. This year, two special trophies were also on offer.
The Pirelli King of the Mountain Trophy was to be presented to the rider who picked up the biggest points haul from Sunday’s race and Monday’s Sprint.
Meanwhile, the Monster Energy Cadwell 90 Trophy – designed to celebrate the landmark 90th anniversary of Cadwell Park – was to be awarded to the winner of the Cadwell 90 Feature race on Monday afternoon.
Ryde powered to Sunday afternoon’s opening race win, beating Lee Jackson by 0.791secs to put half a hand on the Pirelli prize.
But Race Two wasn’t quite so easy, as defending champ Tommy Bridewell – who, as part of the Honda Racing UK squad, is very much part of the Evotech Performance-supported family – decided he fancied a piece of the action.
Following a hard-fought scrap which went all the way to the chequered flag, it was Bridewell who took the win but Ryde’s second place, coupled with Sunday’s win, was enough to bag him the prize.
Which meant it was now all about the big one, the final race of the weekend. Ryde hit the front at Turn One and despite being passed briefly by team-mate Vickers, he was back ahead on the second lap when Vickers crashed out.
From there, he controlled the rest of the race as Bridewell fought his way back from fifth on the opening lap to end up behind Ryde but this time, was unable to find a way to the front and had to concede to his rival.
Ryde, now the winner of two races at Cadwell, was also now the winner of two trophies as he picked up the Monster Energy Cadwell 90 prize along with the usual winners’ silverware.
What a weekend for the boys in blue – we can only imagine team boss Alan Gardner is now in the process off ordering a super-size trophy cabinet…
